Schnorchel Silfra, Caving & Nordlichter
Gehen Sie durch Lavaröhren, schwimmen Sie zwischen Kontinenten und beobachten Sie Nordlichter
Snorkel through lava filtered water, walk where lava flowed
On this self-drive tour, you will snorkel through one of the world’s most fantastic snorkel and dive sites, Silfra, and go hiking through a lava tube that was created thousands of years ago by a river of red glowing lava! Additionally, you will observe the Northern Lights in a way that is not possible anywhere else. This tour combines our top rated Silfra Snorkeling Tour with a caving tour through a lava tube and a visit to the unique Aurora Basecamp.
The lava tube you will visit is called Leiðarendi cave. Leiðarendi displays the typical features of this most common type of lava cave in Iceland. It is full of utterly weird and wonderful rock formations as well as a splattering of amazing colors. Even though at some points inside the cave we will have to climb and crawl a little, this cave tour is an easy one that can be undertaken by everyone who feels comfortable in confined spaces and is fit to take a short hike. Please make sure to bring good shoes.
You will see another feature of tectonic activity from another and most unusual perspective: underwater! Silfra is a fissure created by the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates pulling apart. The fissure is filled with crystal clear glacial water that has been filtered underground for decades. This is an underwater scene unlike anywhere else on earth. You can read more about the Silfra snorkeling tour here.
Aurora Basecamp is a Northern Lights Observatory where you will experience a unique indoor simulation of the Northern Lights as well as learning about hunting them in the Icelandic sky. At Aurora Basecamp you will also get tips on how to spot them, how to take photos of them on your camera and much more. The visit will be during the day, but your voucher allows you to visit again the same night, a perfect starting point if you plan to hunt for the Northern Lights while in Iceland.
This is a combo self-drive tour. Meeting point for Silfra Snorkeling is at Thingvellir national park. The drive from Reykjavik is about 1 hour. Meeting point for the Cave and Northern Lights tour is at Aurora Basecamp. The drive from Reykjavik is about 20 minutes. Daily departures at 15.00 / 3PM.
The Silfra Snorkeling, Caving & Northern Lights Tour is a great combination tour for those who want to make the most of their time in Iceland. Please note that the caving and Northern lights tour is operated by our trusted sister company. They have years of experience and fantastic, knowledgeable guides .

Stunning!
"What an amazing experience! While we were super excited about the idea of doing this, the reality was a bit daunting. It's cold, it's a bit confining, but wow was it worth the slight discomfort. Our guide Tanya was amazing; personable, funny, helpful, calming, I could go on. As a quasi-seasoned snorkler, I can say that you will never see anything like this anywhere. Do this tour with Dive.is if you have the chance."

Are photos always taken on the Silfra Snorkeling Tours?
-
In general the answer is yes. However, it can happen in rare occasions that your Silfra snorkeling guide is not able to take photos because he/she might be busy assisting other snorkelers in the water. Another uncommon reason could be that the camera has a problem. In this unlikely case you will be refunded for the tour photos should you already have purchased them online in advance.

-

Can I use my full face snorkel mask?
-
Although we understand that many people prefer to snorkel with a full face snorkel mask (also known as a Easybreath mask or Ninja mask), it is regrettably not possible to use them here in Iceland as it is not possible to get them to seal around the hood that you need to wear. This would result in your mask constantly flooding with water, which would not be an enjoyable experience

-
Can I use my own snorkel equipment?
-
You are most welcome to bring your own snorkeling equipment, but please be aware of the following. If you are thinking of bringing your own fins, please make sure that they are open heeled fins, as they will need to fit over a drysuit boot. Most people will wear a drysuit with similar sized shoes to their normal shoe size, but sometimes that is not the case, and therefore your fins may not fit. If you have your own neoprene hood and gloves, you are welcome to bring them, but please remember that this is 3°C water - we highly suggest a minimum of 7mm hood and 7mm three finger mittens as these are the warmest options, and what we will supply. You may find that 5mm five fingered gloves are quite cold, and we do not advise wearing anything less than 5mm thickness.

-
Do I need to be able to swim in order to take part in Snorkeling?
-
Even though the dry suits are very buoyant and keep you afloat, it is a requirement that all participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in water to join the tour. This is for your own safety and comfort. You do however not need to be a very strong swimmer, merely able to swim and be comfortable in the water.
