Our private tours include a private guide, the snorkeling tour and all necessary equipment for snorkeling.
Kleifarvatn is a lake in the stunning landscape of Reykjanes peninsula, only a short drive away from the newly erupting volcano in Geldingadalir.
On the snorkeling tour we will meet you at Seltún geothermal area, a nearby high temperature geothermal area on land. In Seltún we will walk along the boiling mud pots and colorful sulfur deposits. Your guide will tell you about the landscape you are in as well as brief you on the snorkeling tour.
We drive to Lake Kleifarvatn and dress you in a dry suit on the shore of the lake. Then we guide you over the hot spring, with its white and yellow sulfur deposits on the lake floor. We’ve heard this sensation described as similar to ‘snorkeling in a glass of Champagne’. The fact that we are snorkeling in a caldera is also impressive.
When back on land we will enjoy some refreshments at the shore.
If you want to avoid the crowds and have Lake Kleifarvatn all to yourself, this is the experience for you.

Timeline of your tour
- Arrival at the meeting point at Seltún geothermal hot springs area 15 minutes before the tour start time, check-in with guides
- Briefing with your guide about the area, geothermal energy and snorkeling in Kleifarvatn (∼30 min total)
- Drive to snorkeling spot at Lake Kleifarvatn with the guide, approx 10 minutes
- Division into groups of 8 people, one group per guide
- Gear-up with your guide (∼30 min total)
- Make your way to the entry point. 30-45 minutes spent in the water
- Exit the water and take off equipment
- Enjoy bubbling refreshments as well as hot chocolate and cookies on the shore
- At this point, you will have time to chat with your guide, ask any questions you might have and take a look at the pics taken during the tour
- Drive back to Reykjavik or continue on to the volcanic area near Grindavík or the Blue Lagoon

Frequently asked questions about our Private Snorkeling Hot spring Day Tour

Are photos always taken on the Silfra Snorkeling Tours?

In general, the answer is yes. However, it can happen on rare occasions that your Silfra snorkeling guide is not able to take photos because they might be busy assisting other snorkelers in the water. Another issue could be that the camera has a problem. In this unlikely case you will receive a full refund for the photos you purchased.

Are the dry suits very tight / uncomfortable?

We use top-quality equipment for our Snorkeling and Scuba Diving tours.
The dry suits only do a certain amount of dives/time before they get sold and replaced by new ones.
This ensures that our guests will always dive/snorkel in top-notch dry suits frequently tested, serviced or replaced.
However, it is of high importance to provide us with your correct size (height and weight), so we can make sure to bring the best fit for you. If we receive an incorrect size, the guest will receive an incorrect dry suit fit. We assure you that your size information as well as all other personal information stays confidential with us.
We also want to point out that if you are sensitive to having something tight around your neck and/or wrists you might feel uncomfortable in a dry suit. It goes with the territory to have a well-sealing neoprene neck seal and rubber wrist seals in order to stay dry.

Can I get a pickup/drop off at the Blue Lagoon or Keflavík Airport?

We unfortunately do not offer transportation outside of Reykjavík central area. If you are however going to/coming from the Blue Lagoon or Keflavík Airport, we can pick you up/drop you off at the BSI bus terminal in Reykjavík.

Can I use my full face snorkel mask?

Although we understand that many people prefer to snorkel with a full-face mask (also known as a Easybreath mask or Ninja mask), it is regrettably not possible to use them here in Iceland as it is not possible to get them to seal around the hood that you need to wear. This would result in your mask constantly flooding with water, which would not be an enjoyable experience

Can my children snorkel?

Children that are 12 years old on the year can snorkel with Dive.is.

Do I need to be able to swim in order to take part in Snorkeling?

Even though the dry suits are very buoyant and keep you afloat, it is a requirement that all participants must be able to swim and feel comfortable in water to join the tour. This is for your own safety and comfort. You do however not need to be a very strong swimmer, as long as you can maintain yourself at the surface and propel yourself through the crack.
