Aurora Basecamp Dark Park

Your one-stop-shop for the Northern Lights in Iceland

Don't miss out!

If the Northern Lights are on your bucket list, you have to visit Aurora Basecamp

The Aurora Borealis is a phenomenon that attracts thousands of visitors to the northern countries, bu it can be very tricky to spot.

Aurora Basecamp was born from the idea of giving travellers as much information as possible regarding the lights, as well as the chance to see a lifelike replica for those times when the lights really don't want to show up.
Built in the middle of a lava field only a short car ride away from Reykjavik, the two geodesic domes provide the perfect location to learn about this mezmerising event.

The Aurora Lounge is a low lit dome, furnished with tables, benches and blankets to allow a comfortable stay. Here, the guides will tell you all you need to know about the lights: what they are, how to find them and how to take pictures of them on your phone or camera.

The second dome houses the one-of-a-kind Dark Park. Here you will take part in a 30-minute guided tour designed to help you identify the lights. Additionally, you will be able to see the current solar activity and a lifelike reproduction of the lights that it is generating. This is a great opportunity to experience the Aurora on cloudy nights and even during the day!
Being a Northern Lights observatory, you will want to stay outisde when the conditions are right to spot the lights. For this reason, the guided tour of the Dark Park ends in the outdoor area where you can scour the night sky and see when the real magic happens.
