About Us

DIVE.IS - The Sport Diving School of Iceland

Iceland's leading dive & snorkel tour operator

DIVE.IS – The Sport Diving School of Iceland was founded in 1997 by Tómas J. Knútsson, whose work set the standard for recreational diving in Iceland.

It is thanks to Tómas’s efforts in promoting scuba diving in Iceland that Silfra became such a beloved dive site among the international diving community. Today, Tómas focuses on a subdivision of PADI Project Aware called the Blue Army, which he founded and manages.

In the summer of 2006 Tobias Klose took over management of DIVE.IS. Tobias has travelled all over Iceland in search of new dive & snorkel sites and developed new diving & snorkeling tours covering the greatest (so far known) dive spots in the country.

In 2012 DIVE.IS was upgraded to a 5 STAR PADI Dive Center and in 2013 DIVE.IS became a 5 STAR PADI Instructor Development Centre.

In 2017 DIVE.IS was recognized as a “Model Company of the Year” by VR, the union of employees and employers engaged in commerce in Iceland. DIVE.IS received this award for its excellence in categories including management, equality, work atmosphere, and employee happiness.

Articles & Movies

Great things have been said about Diving in Iceland.
Over the years many articles have been written about diving and snorkelling in Iceland. Particularly Silfra was in the spotlight of the journalists in the early days. Well it´s only 9 years ago that Silfra made a front page for the first time. That was in the british DIVE Magazine and shortly after in TIME magazine. After those articles the ice was broken and many journalists both for print and moving pictures came to visit us in the coming years... not only to write about Silfra but Iceland as a dive destination.
