12.11.2012 - DIVE.IS upgraded to be a PADI 5 STAR DIVE CENTER

DIVE.IS becomes a PADI 5 STAR DIVE CENTER
DIVE.IS upgraded to be a PADI 5 STAR DIVE CENTER
DIVE.IS is proud to announce to have been upgraded to the 5 STAR DIVE CENTER rating by PADI.
Our staff has worked hard and done a great job to reach this goal and we want to thank everyone that has been working for and with DIVE.IS over the years. Above all Tómas Knútsson, who founded DIVE.IS and left a spotless Dive Center to take over by his successors.
Here is PADI's definition of the 5 STAR DIVE CENTER:
"PADI Five Star Dive Center Membership is awarded to progressive PADI Dive Shops that excel in providing scuba divers with a full range of scuba certification programs, scuba gear selection, and scuba experience opportunities. To qualify as PADI Five Star Dive Center, a dive shop must meet elevated service and business standards and both promote and offer only PADI scuba diving lessons as their recreational scuba diver training.
These dive shops also actively promote underwater environmental awareness and embrace the PADI System of diver education, with a commitment to providing quality training, products, services and experiences."

DIVE.IS is proud to announce to have received the Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor again in 2012.
Customer service and fullfilling our guests expectations is one of our top-priorities. Our weekly staff meetings often spin exactly around these issues and how we can improve the customer experience.
This tripadvisor 5 star certificate and many of the feedback letters and conversations with our divers and snorkerlers reassure us that we do something right :-)...
We promise to continue to do so and love to get your feedback both positive as well as if you see or feel there is something we can improve!

22.06.2012 - Tom Cruise comes diving with DIVE.IS

On the 22nd of June 2012 DIVE.IS had the pleasure of taking Tom Cruise scuba diving in Silfra, Thingvellir.

Tom came with a couple friends on a private Midnight Sun Tour and some of the group dived and others snorkeled. Tom is a really good diver with plenty of diving experience. The dive went very well even though he hadn't dived in a dry suit before. Well, we didn't expect anything else from an actor that does most of his stunts himself :-).
Tom and the others in the group enjoyed Silfra very much and the words "amazing" and "beautiful" were the most remaining after the dive.
Even though it was already late at night Tom invited us into his trailer for a chat over a hot chocolate and a photo shoot ;-).
Tom had nothing but good to say about Iceland and used a number of superlatives talking about Icelands nature, people and not the least about Silfra.

24.02.2011 - DIVE.IS introduces the PADI Tectonic Plate Awareness Distinctive Specialty Diver Course

The PADI Tectonic Plate Awareness Distinctive Specialty Course was designed by DIVE.IS and introduces scuba divers to the exciting geological world of plate tectonics and the special considerations when diving in fissures between tectonic plates.

Distinctive Specialty Courses are designed for certain phenomena that are only present in certain areas on the world.
The tectonic rifts are so typical for Iceland, that we decided to design a Distinctive Specialty Course that introduces scuba divers to the exciting geological world of plate tectonics and the special considerations when diving in fissures between tectonic plates.
On this course we will go deeper into the theory of plate tectonics in context to the Silfra fissure and other rifts that can be seen throughout Iceland.
For safety issues special considerations need to be taken care of when diving in this extreme environment.
On the other hand this environment has some very special features to offer, such as the fact that you are diving in the clearest water of this planet and that you are holding one hand on a wall in America and the other one in Europe.
After the course the participants will take a knowledge review with 20 questions. After reviewing these questions with his/her instructor, he/she will certify you as a PADI Tectonic Plate Awareness Diver and divers will receive a PADI certification card for this disctinctive specialty.

You find detailed information about this course on this website: The PADI Tectonic Plate Awareness Distinctive Specialty Diver Course

02.12.2010 - Divers Night 2010 - the night dive in Iceland

As every year, DIVE.IS organized the diversnight in Iceland also this year. We were 17 divers that plunged into Silfra at 20:10 on the 2nd of december at -8°C air temperature and 2°C water temperature. The atmosphere was great and we had a photographer form the largest Icelandic daily paper on the spot, who took some amazing photos that were printed on the frontpage of Fréttablaðið the next morning.
Unfortunately we did not break the world record this year. In total there were 1700 divers in the water at 175 dive locations. In 2009 there were over 2000 divers... We give it another try next year :-)

22.04.2010 - Vulcanic eruption has no impact on diving tours!

DIVE.IS wants to let all divers and snorkelers know that the recent vulcanic eruption under the Eyjafjalla glacier here in Iceland doesn‘t create any problems for our dive and snorkel tours.
The vulcano is far away and the conditions for scuba diving and snorkeling as well as the visibility in Silfra are not affected.

22.03.2010 - Silfra Photo wins underwater photo competition!

Last year the renowned underwater photographer Magnus Lundgren has been diving with us in Silfra and other dive sites in Iceland.

We remember the dives with Magnus very well, because they were long and freezing, especially when hovering motionless as a dive model for over 65 minutes in 2°C cold water.
However, the pain has paid off, since one his Silfra photos won the first price in the 4th annual deep Indonesia underwater photo competition for the topic "DIVER" and has been also rated the best photo of the whole show.
