We will pick you up from your hotel and drive to a nearby lava field where some of the world´s most stunning subterranean scenery awaits us.
Depending on our schedule, we will choose either Gjábakkahellir caveDetailed information about the Gjábakkahellir cave at Thingvellir national park or Leiđarendi caveDetailed information about the cave Leiđarendi. on the Reykjanes peninsula.
Both caves are amazing lava tubesDetailed information about the formation of lava tubes that display many of the typical features of this most common type of lava caves found in Iceland.
Lava tubing refers to the exploration of a tube-like cave hidden right under our feet in the vast fields of ancient lava that cover much of Iceland.
Untouched for thousands of years, these hidden gems offer an experience that is at once exhilarating and awe-inspiring as you witness up-close some of the most weird and wonderful rock formations found on Earth.
You will be amazed by the display of colours, shapes and textures. Who would have thought that some of the most colourful landscape on Earth is under ground? In addition, known to some as the habitat of trolls and elves, these mysterious, dark places have for centuries inspired Icelandic folklore and fairy tales which our guides are more than happy to share with you.
Prior to embarking on your underground adventure your guide will give you a safety briefing and hand out the caving helmets and lights. We believe in using only top-notch head lights that will make all the difference in exploring the hidden secrets of the underworld, about as far removed from the hustle and bustle of every-day life as you can get.
